Our specialist organisations – Apprenticeships and Training Unit

The Manchester College’s Apprenticeships and Training Unit flourishes within our Group as a standalone business unit and, since 2015, benefits from shared expertise as Total People Ltd joined our Group. There is an increasing policy focus on Apprenticeships, with government plans to introduce an Apprenticeship levy for businesses and boost Apprenticeship numbers by 3 million by 2020. Our Apprenticeships and Training Unit has expanded and restructured to swiftly transfer this opportunity to our learners and employer stakeholders. With the combined strengths of the Unit and Total People, we are now one of the fifth largest training providers in the north west.

The Apprenticeships and Training Unit focuses on effective delivery models to meet the needs of the learner and the employer. An important ingredient in this is our partnership- building capability. Initiatives include a partnership with business improvement provider, Sigma, to develop customised Apprenticeship frameworks for the manufacturing industry. These working relationships help ensure we are leading the way as Apprenticeships become even more relevant to a new generation of learners and jobseekers.

Placing an increasing focus on higher- and degree-level Apprenticeships, the Apprenticeships and Training Unit now finds employment for around 3,000 apprentices a year and is able to draw on the wider expertise of the Group to assist apprentices with progression opportunities.
